So I decided to post photos of the top 15 shows I photographed in 2015. It’s been a wild year full of traveling the country, seeing a plethora of amazing artists, and really getting a chance to do what I love. That being said, 2016 is going to be better, as that should always be your goal: to do better the next year. #15: The Expendables
The Expendables are a band from Santa Cruz, California who were on tour with Dirty Heads when I saw them. They’re a lively show with a lot of (obvious) marijuana references and discussion. Definitely worth a watch
Hellyeah put on a raucous show that sold an underwhelming amount of tickets due to the weather during February in the midwest. They really put on a great performance, including spitting blood on us photographers
#13: Of Mice & Men
These metalcore rockers played an intimate show to a sold out venue of about 1500 or so. There was no photo pit, and it was a crazy thing to see people getting so overheated up front that security was dragging them out of the crowd to get them out. Gotta love crazy kids and their metal.
Now I know some of you will call me a criminal for even saying this, but Nickelback puts on a helluva show. They sound identical to their albums, their stage performance is top notch, and they are very light hearted despite the hate.
#11: Saint Asonia
This is a group that is very personal to me. Reason being, is it’s Adam Gontier’s band! Three Days Grace! Hello?! They ruled part of my childhood, and I can’t help but love them. Their show is solid, and their original music is really pushing the boundaries set upon them as a band known for “butt rock” so to speak.
#10: Phillip Phillips
This American Idol winner put on a stellar amphitheater performance in Wisconsin earlier in the year, really showing why he was chosen as he put on a fast paced stage show, all the while remaining vocally composed and strong.
#9: The Griswolds
The Griswolds are an Australian up and coming band who played at Summerfest as well this year in Milwaukee, and they truly impressed me. I had never heard of them prior to this festival, and after seeing and hearing them on stage, I have confidence saying they will be blowing up sooner rather than later
Hard rocker supergroup Sixx:AM came through this year, and while I was never a big fan of the remake of Guns n Roses, or Motley Crue in general, this band holds their own very well and plays right into what I come to expect from rock bands in 2015.
Touring off of the release of their new album release, Shinedown is sounding much more mature and looking the part as well in comparison to previous years. I think this band has finally hit their prime and it’s time for people to jump on board if they hadn’t already
#6: Steel Panther
Steel Panther is the epitome of a good show. While their music is comedy, it’s also very well written and played flawlessly live. If you haven’t seen them before, you’re still lacking something in life.
Gavin Rossdale. Enough said.
#4: Dashboard Confessional
These pop rockers blew my f***ing mind to be completely honest. Knowing who they were since middle school, I thought it’d be cool to photograph them. The day I was to shoot the show, we had a tornado warning with a funnel cloud literally over my house. I still drove to the venue, and it was one of the best performances of 2015. I do not regret it.
#3: Van Halen
Seeing the classic, infamous band that stole people’s hearts through the 70s and 80s, was a bucket list moment. While David Lee Roth’s singing has been under much scrutiny for that tour, I absolutely recommend you catching them (if you ever can again).
#2: Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift, while isn’t my type of music in general, is my type of show. Between the multiple stages, sold out venue and guest appearances, it’s hard to find something to not like. Plus, she can really belt it.
#1: Foo Fighters
The rock band of all rock bands. Foo Fighters played to a sold out crowd in Wichita a few months prior, and while I’ve been told the shows have typically been soundboard most of the tour, we ended up getting pit access for the first 3 songs, with a revised contract as well. This topped my year, 100%.
If you’ve stuck with me this far, I greatly appreciate all of your support in keeping what I do a possibility. I absolutely love this business and the role I play in it. Thank you for checking out the site and I can’t wait for 2016.
