Pokemon Go has taken the world by storm over the last several days, and is only going to grow bigger with the coming updates including trading and battles with friends. The free mobile game created by Niantic is an augmented reality game inspiring kids and adults alike to get on their feet so they can go out into the real world to become the Pokemon masters they've always been destined to be.
It's already been proven to have a positive impact to players' mental health, the physical activity is always good, and it has created an overall morale boost for communities, allowing strangers to become friends through Pokemon Go.
Since I'm based out of Kansas City and have had my eyes glued to my Samsung Galaxy Note 5 for the last few days, I figured I'd write up a few of the best Pokemon Go spots in Kansas City I've found! So here we go!
Westport has some fun Pokemon hanging out along the sidewalks of Main and Broadway. We were able to catch a couple Ivysaur. we spotted a Pidgeot, as well as a Blastoise on the way out. There's always the abundance of Rattata and Pidgeys to keep you busy as well. Walking between Chubby's and Uptown Theater had a little action, but if you want to try your luck, there's a very active gym at Uptown Theater that changes hands in mere minutes.
- Art District/Crossroads
There's been some reports of some Pokemon such as Pikachus, Magmars, and Dragonites hanging out in this area. Make sure to hit up the not-so-busy streets in this area. I've seen some things pop up that were nowhere on my Nearby list. You can always stop at Crossroads KC near Grinders for a show, and grab a slice of Pizza while you're at it. You can't become the master if you don't eat, kids.
- Kansas City Zoo area
I live on the border of KCMO and Raytown, so I'm very close to the KC Zoo. We took a short drive and parked near the fenced off back areas of the Zoo, and saw a large amount of activity over there. If you're looking for numbers more than anything, you can go here and clean up for a bit by going up and down this road and along the pond area as well.
- Longview Lake
This is a bit outside of the city, but if you go to Longview Lake near Lee's Summit (and the town surrounding the lake), there's a good amount of Pokemon of all types floating around. I was able to head towards the water and catch a Polywag and Squirtle, and then heading down the road towards town I caught a nicely leveled up Psyduck and Slowpoke. I'm nowhere near the levels of some people in the area, as I don't get the opportunity to play as much as I'd like to, but if I'm capturing those at my level, the opportunities for you higher level guys are top notch.
- Country Club Plaza
This place was such a hotbed for players that there was a group of 200 or so people playing at around midnight out there. Walk the gloriously lit area to find some Muk's, Pidgeott, Venasaur, and tons of others. The best part is when you need that food break, you have plenty of options down there like Fogo De Chao and PF Chang's.
- (Honorable mention) Zona Rosa
This is reportedly a very busy location worth checking out. I haven't made my way there yet, so trek at your own risk. It's from a friend.
